Retro fridges by color, and who makes each fridge
Most people choose a retro fridge by its color first, and only then find out which fridges come in it. So this guide is sorted the same way. Every retro fridge color we list is grouped below, with who makes each fridge, what it costs and what to know before you buy.
"Retro fridge" covers very different fridges, at very different sizes and prices. And the color you want can lead you to a fridge that doesn't suit the way you live, so before the colors, here are the three kinds of retro fridge you're choosing between.

The three kinds of retro fridge
The single-door showpiece fridge
One door, the rounded 1950s shape, and a small freezer box inside the fridge rather than a separate freezer. Our own Del Mar fridge holds 9.9 cubic feet and Smeg's FAB28 holds 9.5 cubic feet. So this kind suits a small kitchen or a second kitchen, not a family's only fridge.
The retro fridge with a real freezer
Same curves, but with a freezer of its own. Smeg's FAB32 has two freezer drawers below the fridge, 11.7 cubic feet in all, and Smeg's two-door FAB50 holds 18.5 cubic feet with an ice maker. So this is the kind that can be the only fridge in the house.
The budget retro fridge
Galanz's 12 cubic foot fridge has the shape and the colors for a fraction of the price, though owners point out that the handles are plastic. And Frigidaire's retro compact is smaller still, 3.2 cubic feet, made for a dorm room, an office or a basement bar rather than a kitchen.

You'll have noticed our own fridge in almost every color above. That's because Del Mar comes in nine colors at one price, so here's the plain version of what it is, followed by the same for every other maker.

Del Mar Appliance Co., our own brand
Del Mar is designed in Del Mar, San Diego, and built to our specification by a refrigeration factory in Guangdong, China. Every color is $1,899, and that price includes a five-year warranty on parts and labor, repaired in your home. It also includes delivery to the room you choose, unboxed, leveled and plugged in, with your old fridge taken away if you want it gone. It's ETL Listed to the US safety standard for household refrigerators. But here's the honest part: Del Mar is new, on sale from September 2026, so there are no owner reviews yet. And it ships in 8 to 10 weeks, though you can cancel any time before it ships for a full refund.
Smeg
Smeg is an Italian appliance maker based in Guastalla, near Reggio Emilia, founded in 1948, and it created the FAB fridges in 1997. Smeg USA's warranty is two full years on parts, labor and in-home service, then parts only for the sealed cooling system through the fifth year. And a Smeg door can't be switched once the fridge is built, so the FAB28 and FAB50 come with the door hinged on the left or the right, and you order the side your kitchen needs. But the hard part is repair. One Smeg owner wrote that ten local repair firms refused the job, because they won't work on European closed-system appliances, and Smeg scores 1.3 out of 5 stars from 243 reviews on Trustpilot. Smeg owners are just as clear about why they buy a Smeg fridge, though.

Amazon lists the Smeg fridges in many more colors than these, but most were out of stock when we checked on 6 October 2026, so this guide shows the colors that were in stock. The Smeg links on this page go to Amazon, so delivery and returns follow the Amazon seller's terms, and the warranty is Smeg USA's.
Galanz
The US brand is Galanz Americas, and Galanz says plainly that it manufactures in its own factory in Guangdong, China. The warranty is one year, for the first owner only. You should also know about a recall. In July 2026 the Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled about 121,680 Galanz retro fridges after 34 fires and one death. That recall covers the 7.6 cubic foot GLR76T models, not the 12 cubic foot fridge we link to. We're telling you anyway, because you'd want to know, so check the model number at cpsc.gov before you buy any Galanz fridge. Owners rate the 12 cubic foot fridge 3.8 out of 5 stars from 1,067 ratings on Amazon. And here's what one owner said about the handles.

Frigidaire retro compact
The Frigidaire name on this compact is misleading, so that needs saying first. Frigidaire doesn't make, warrant or service this fridge. Curtis International, a Canadian company, licenses the Frigidaire name from Electrolux, and the safety commission names the factory as ShangYu North Electron in China. So if the fridge breaks down, the warranty is one year from Curtis, repair or replacement at Curtis's choice, and you pay to ship the fridge back. Curtis has also recalled about 964,000 Frigidaire-branded minifridges for fire, in July 2025 and January 2026. Those recalls cover the small EFMIS drinks fridges, not the retro EFR fridge linked here. The small freezer section has to be defrosted by hand, and the door can be reversed. Owners rate the Frigidaire retro compact 4.2 out of 5 stars from 9,257 ratings on Amazon.

Before you order a retro fridge
A retro fridge is shaped differently from a standard fridge, so measure for the fridge you're buying, not the fridge you have now.
- Height: the Smeg FAB32 stands 77.5 inches tall, so measure under any cabinet above it. Del Mar and the Smeg FAB28 are about 60 inches tall.
- Width: Del Mar, the Smeg FAB28 and the FAB32 are 24 inch fridges, Galanz is 23.7 inches wide, and the two-door FAB50 is a 32 inch fridge.
- Door: a Smeg door can't be reversed after delivery, so check the swing against your walls and counters, and order the FAB28 or FAB50 with the hinge on the side you need.
- Water: the FAB50's ice maker needs a water line behind the fridge.
- Delivery: Del Mar arrives installed. The Amazon links follow the seller's delivery terms, so check how far into the house the fridge is carried before you order.
