Kettles
The retro Smeg kettle, now in navy, and what it does and doesn't do
The Smeg kettle holds seven cups, has a lid that opens slowly, and comes in pastels or navy. But the kettle boils water and switches off, and that's all it does.

Most people buy the Smeg kettle for the way it looks, and that's a good reason. A kettle sits out on the counter all day, so it's among the few appliances you see every time you walk into the kitchen. And now that navy has joined the pastels, the kettle can sit in a darker kitchen too.
You'd like the kettle to match a Smeg toaster, or to bring one color onto the counter, and you make coffee or black tea with boiling water.
You drink green or white tea, which needs water below boiling. Smeg's KLF04 is the same kettle with temperature settings.

What the Smeg kettle does
The Smeg KLF03 holds 1.7 liters, about seven cups, and it heats at 1,400 watts. Its body is stainless steel, with a window on the side that shows how much water is inside. And the kettle lifts off a base that turns all the way round, so you can set it down at any angle, while the cord wraps into the base when you put it away.
Two small things make the kettle nicer to use every day. The lid opens slowly, so the steam doesn't rush out at your hand. And the limescale filter in the spout is stainless steel too, so it lifts out to wash.
The kettle switches itself off when the water boils. It also switches off if it's turned on with no water inside.
What the Smeg kettle doesn't do
The Smeg KLF03 kettle boils water, and that's all. It has no temperature settings and no keep-warm, so it isn't the kettle for green or white tea, which taste best made with water below boiling. For those teas, Smeg makes the KLF04, the same body with temperature settings from 120 to 212 °F and keep-warm for up to 20 minutes.

The kettle's size counts too. The kettle is 9 inches wide, 9.75 inches tall and 6.75 inches deep, so measure the space under your cabinets if it's going to sit there.
What owners say about the Smeg kettle
On Amazon, the KLF03 scores 4.3 out of 5 from 2,333 ratings, across the colors we link (September 2026). Most owners write about the looks first and the speed second.
"The noise is not as loud as other kettles. It is very fast to boil water. It doesn’t take much of counter space and the look is so adorable for any kitchen."
Amazon customer, verified purchase, May 2025, in cream
"It heats water quickly and quietly, and the 7-cup capacity is perfect whether I’m making a single cup of tea or a full French press."
Amazon customer, verified purchase, October 2025, in black
But not every owner of the Smeg kettle is happy, and their complaints are worth reading before you buy.
"The kettle has never really boiled the water to a hot boiling temperature so the turn off point must be set lower than what you would get if you have a kettle on the stove so to say."
Amazon customer, verified purchase, June 2026, in red
"Amazingly after a year and a half, not only did this kettle start to go belly up but my toaster did as well."
The same owner, June 2026
The second owner's kettle failed after a year and a half, which is six months after Smeg's one-year warranty ends.
The Smeg kettle's colors, and where to buy each color
Red, pastel green, navy and black are sold on Amazon. Pastel blue, cream, pink and white are sold by Abt Electronics, a family-owned appliance store in Glenview, Illinois. So the seller can change with the color you choose, and the delivery and returns change with it.

Abt takes most items back within 30 days in their original packaging, and it may charge the return shipping. Amazon's returns follow the seller on each listing. And whichever seller you choose, the warranty is Smeg USA's.
Who makes the Smeg kettle
Smeg is an Italian appliance maker based in Guastalla, near Reggio Emilia, and Vittorio Bertazzoni founded it in 1948. Smeg began making small appliances in 2014, so the kettle and the toaster are the newer side of the company. And there's no recall on record for this kettle at the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (checked September 2026).
The toaster that matches the Smeg kettle
Smeg makes its two-slice toaster in the same color names as the kettle, so the toaster and the kettle can sit side by side in one color. That's the pair most people picture when they think of a retro counter.

Smeg isn't the only maker of a matching pair, though. The toaster and kettle guide shows the others, color by color.
Before you buy the Smeg kettle
- Temperature: if you drink green or white tea, choose the KLF04 instead.
- Color: if you're matching a toaster, choose the same color name on both.
- Seller: check who sells your color, because the returns are that seller's.
- Space: measure under your cabinets, because the kettle is 9.75 inches tall.
